Whistler Village
In Whistler the choice of après is huge and are all set in a car free village awash with great shopping. Whistler Village is actually more of a town – there are over 200 shops and 90 restaurants. Unlike most of the other resorts in North America, Whistler Village is right at the bottom of the mountain and some areas are ski in – ski out. This gives the resort much more of a European feel and means there is no long daily commute by bus to the slopes.
Qualifications and Certs...
The Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) Level 1 or Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance (CSIA) Level 1 course and exam are used in Whistler. The CASI or CSIA Level 1 exam, membership and manual are all included in the cost. The Peaks' team learn mountain safety, is introduced to avalanche awareness, leadership skills and is introducted to freestyle. A First Aid certificate and a short (ILM) Management course & certificate (which is relevant to teaching skiing / snowboarding) are optional extras.
Whistler Mountain
Whistler's reputation throughout the ski industry is like no other. It's popularity is due to the shear size of the resort combined with massive annual snowfall. Whistler is known as one of the most beautiful places on Earth and ski magazines voted it the no.1 ski resort in North America in 2005. It's also been selected to host the 2010 Alpine & Nordic Olympic Games. The resort is spread over two enormous mountains with 5,000 feet each of vertical and a combined 7,000 acres of chutes, steeps and trees, with an average snowfall of 360 inches and 33 lifts making it North America's biggest powder destination and party town. It also has 5 terrain parks and unbeatable lift access to excellent, varied terrain.
Job Opportunities & Work Visas
In Canada there is a huge demand for instructors to teach beginners due to the size of the resorts and the number of people who go ski. Please note that although we do not guarantee a job offer in ski school, the course leader is there to advise and help you with both general personal development and specifics about ski school applications and networking. Ultimately, however, it will be up to you to secure your job for the rest of the season. From previous years, we have found there are plenty of jobs to be had. If you would like to work in Canada you must obtain a work visa before you leave the UK.
