Hotel and Food
Trainees stay at the excellent, family owned 3 * Irwin's Mountain Inn located on Banff's main street - an easy five minute walk from down town. Please note that we do not use hostel style accommodation as we prefer the spacious, airy rooms with large, comfortable beds at Irwins. Included is continental breakfast in the hotel daily and five tasty evening meals Sunday to Thursday in a variety of Banff's specially selected restaurants. Irwin's has a hot tub and gym and the course leader lives in with the group.
Banff
Don't be bored in a small town in the middle of nowhere! Banff has achieved it's legendary status because it not only has stunning slopes near by, but also an exciting town offering everything you want for a season's stay. In Banff, the town's night life and vast range of winter sports has more than enough to keep you busy on and off the slopes. It is great for chilling and partying with an eclectic mix of shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants and clubs. Talk to your Peaks’ course leader about organising some ‘optional extras’; cave tours, snowshoeing, icewalking, sleigh riding, ice fishing, ice diving, skating and snowmobiling and heli skiing / boarding in the wider Banff area.
Qualifications and Certs...
The Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance (CSIA) or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) levels 1 & 2 are offered and are recognised world wide. Included in the price are coaching, exam and certification to CSIA and CASI level 1, coaching to level 2 with the level 2 exam and certification optional. CSIA an CASI manuals & membership are included. Optional extras are Certificate in first aid, avalanche awareness course, CASI / CSIA level 2 exam, freestyle, race and adaptive coach level 1, SNSC guiding qualification and the ILM Management certificate. Applicants should be good, intermediate skiers or riders (or better) before applying.
The Resort
Included in the cost is a full season pass for Sunshine and a bus pass to get from Banff to the resort. Sunshine is where the majority of the mountain coaching takes place. The mountain allows you to experience all aspects of skiing and riding - easy terrain to practice teaching, steeps, chutes and secret powder runs as well as a terrain park and some of Canada's most exciting freeride areas such as Goat's Eye Mountain and Delirium Dive. We use the ski & board school's best coaches and have established a great, long term relationship with the team at Sunshine.
Lake Louise
A great new feature in 08 – a 4 day pass for Lake Louise. You and your instructors will go to Lake Louise for 4 days of coaching in one North America's largest ski areas.
Calgary
The Peaks group can opt to spend a day in Calgary shopping, visiting the Olympic park and watching either the Calgary Flames or Hitmen play ice hockey.
Job Opportunities
Because of the excellent relationship we have with the Sunshine ski & board school and the quality of course as a whole, trainees are usually always headhunted from the Banff course and offered jobs for the following season. Some are now teaching in Banff, Whistler, Jasper, Norquay, Lake Louise and Big White – as well as resorts in Europe. We have excellent relationships with ski schools all over the world and can assist you how best to apply for a job after you qualify.
