Racing towards the BASI Level 2 (WEEK 7)

It’s Week 7 at BASI Level 2 and the group in Saas Fee are still slapping on the suncream. On piste it’s been hard and fast with racing practice through the gates. And with just a week left to go everyone is giving it their all before BASI Level 2. Here’s course leader Steve with the update…

Hello sunshine

Week seven was seven days of sunshine in Saas Fee which meant we’ve seen some great improvements from everyone towards the BASI Level 2 exams starting in a week!

A beautiful mountain view during BASI level 2 exam

Now that’s a view you never get tired of waking up to…

The focus on the mountain this week has been on long and short turns, carving and slalom racing in preparation for BASI Level 2.
The skiers spent some time working on long radius turns, a real chance to get a feel for edge control and the skill we all know and love – carving!

The ski crew are really starting to get things together: Big angles in the gates!

The pistes are in perfect condition for this as they are practically empty during the week and the snow is just right for locking in those edges.
The snowboarders spent some time working on carving as well with a huge improvement from all as we see some real progression.

Our midweek treat – race training on a slalom course – was a brilliant time, and a great experience which for some was their first time in gates but probably not their last.

Getting the teaching hat on at BASI Level 2

Later in the week the focus turned to the all important teaching practice that an instructor needs to know – teaching young children and using themes.

The lessons that the trainees were delivering were fun and engaging for young children.
Although slightly apprehensive at first the guys all soon got into the swing of acting like kids and having a laugh while learning (that’s what it’s all about really!)

Apres fun and fitness at BASI Level 2

Off the mountain we had the usual treats – Disa’s Monday night quiz, Jake’s fitness sessions (circuits and parkour on Tuesday and Thursday) and a few nights to relax, prepare and sample the local nightlife.

Tuesday was James’ birthday so we all ventured out for a bar crawl in celebration – some made it further than others!
Friday evening saw a local crew premiere their new snowboard movie ‘Doors’ in the ever popular bar, Popcorn.

Premier party for the crew!!!

Although it wasn’t a ‘big’ night for all as there were a few of the team who were re-sitting part of their level 1 assessments with BASI trainer Peter Kuwall across the weekend.
The weekend was a big success with another six of our skiers fully passing their BASI Level 1 and well set up for the Level 2 which begins in a week! It’s getting close….

New faces

This weekend we have welcomed two new faces to the group in Dom and Ophelia.
They have joined in instantly and will be a welcomed addition in the final week of training with Emma, Jake and Gibbo before the start of the BASI Level 2 assessments.

One more week to go…

Next week will be full of practice, preparations and relaxation as we head to the largest thermal baths in the alps next weekend… oh why not!
